The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) is Singapore's lead public sector agency that fosters world-class scientific research and talent development. We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist in AI/ML for Drug Discovery to join our interdisciplinary team within the Biomedical Research Council and the Science and Engineering Research Council.
As a Scientist, you will be at the forefront of applying artificial intelligence and machine learning to accelerate the drug discovery pipeline. You will work on challenging problems such as de novo drug design, virtual screening, predictive toxicology, and multi-omics data integration. Your day-to-day work will involve developing deep learning models (e.g., graph neural networks, transformers, generative models) and leveraging large-scale biomedical data to identify novel drug targets and candidate molecules.
You will collaborate closely with experimental researchers to design validation experiments and iterate on model predictions. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to multiple projects spanning oncology, infectious diseases, metabolic disorders, and neurodegeneration. You will also have the chance to mentor junior researchers and interns, contribute to grant proposals, and build partnerships with academic and industrial collaborators.

- Develop and implement advanced machine learning and deep learning models for drug discovery applications, including molecular property prediction, generative chemistry, and virtual screening.
- Analyze large-scale biomedical datasets (e.g., genomic, proteomic, phenotypic) to uncover novel drug targets and biomarkers.
- Collaborate with experimental biologists and chemists to design validation studies and refine computational predictions.
- Contribute to the design and execution of AI-driven drug discovery projects from target identification to lead optimization.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in AI/ML and cheminformatics and apply them to enhance research capabilities.
- Present research findings at group meetings, conferences, and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to a culture of collaboration and scientific excellence.
Kualifikasi
- PhD in Computer Science, Computational Biology, Chemistry, or a related field with a focus on machine learning.
- Strong programming skills in Python and experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX.
- Proven track record of research in AI/ML for drug discovery, cheminformatics, or bioinformatics demonstrated by publications.
- Experience with molecular representations (graphs, SMILES, fingerprints) and deep learning architectures (GNNs, VAEs, GANs, transformers).
- Familiarity with high-performance computing environments and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud) is a plus.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a creative approach to scientific challenges.
