Freelance Legal Counsel – Education & Employment Contract Drafting

Our client, a reputable organization in Kuala Lumpur, is seeking an experienced Freelance Legal Counsel to support their education and employment contract drafting needs. This contract role offers flexible working arrangements and the opportunity to work on high‑impact projects within the education sector.

As a key legal advisor, you will collaborate closely with HR, academic leadership, and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with Malaysian law and best practices. Your expertise will be instrumental in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of contracts, including service agreements, employment contracts, and academic partnership documents.

What you’ll do:

• Draft and review education‑related contracts such as student enrollment agreements, tuition fee structures, and scholarship contracts.
• Prepare employment contracts, including permanent, part‑time, and casual staff appointments, ensuring alignment with the Employment Act 1955.
• Advise on labour law compliance, including working hours, leave entitlements, and termination procedures.
• Conduct risk assessments and provide legal opinions on contract clauses.
• Liaise with external counsel and regulatory bodies when required.
• Maintain contract templates and update them in line with legislative changes.

Who you are:

• Qualified Malaysian lawyer with a valid practicing certificate.
• Minimum 3 years of post‑qualification experience, preferably in education or employment law.
• Strong drafting skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet tight deadlines.
• Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
• Proficiency in Malay and English.
