The Role
We are seeking a visionary Principal Engineer to join our team in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia. In this critical leadership role, you will spearhead complex R&D initiatives and drive manufacturing excellence at our state-of-the-art Ipoh facility. You will act as the highest technical authority for laser systems and photonic engineering, collaborating with global R&D, Operations, and Quality teams to design and scale next-generation products. Tanggung Jawab
- Lead the design, development, and optimization of advanced laser systems and photonic sub-assemblies, ensuring stringent customer specifications and regulatory standards are met.
- Drive innovation in manufacturing processes, utilizing deep expertise in precision optics, thin-film coatings, and crystalline materials to enhance yield, reduce costs, and scale global production.
- Serve as the primary technical authority for complex engineering challenges, providing technical mentorship and guidance to cross-functional teams of engineers and scientists.
- Collaborate with global R&D, Product Management, and Quality Assurance teams to define technology roadmaps, product specifications, and long-term strategic initiatives.
- Champion engineering excellence by establishing robust design review procedures, FMEA protocols, and comprehensive testing strategies to ensure first-pass yield and reliability.
- Manage and execute critical projects from conceptual design through to high-volume manufacturing, employing structured project management methodologies (Agile, Stage-Gate).
- Analyze system-level performance data and field returns to identify root causes of failures, implementing permanent corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies in photonics and advanced manufacturing to identify opportunities for innovation, intellectual property creation, and competitive advantage.
Kualifikasi
- Masterās or Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive engineering experience in the photonics, semiconductor capital equipment, or precision optics industry, with at least 3 years in a Principal or Staff Engineer role.
- Deep domain expertise in one or more of the following: diode-pumped solid-state lasers, fiber lasers, ultra-fast laser systems, optical system design, or thin-film engineering.
- Proven track record of successfully launching complex new products from concept through high-volume manufacturing (NPI and Sustaining experience required).
- Strong proficiency with engineering simulation tools (e.g., Zemax, COMSOL, MATLAB, or equivalent) and statistical data analysis methodologies (JMP, Minitab).
- Demonstrated leadership in guiding cross-functional teams and mentoring technical staff; exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Hands-on experience with clean room protocols, precision opto-mechanical alignment, and automated assembly processes is highly desirable.
- Strong systematic problem-solving skills (Six Sigma, Shainin, Kepner-Tregoe, or equivalent certification preferred).
