Senior Buyer – Drive Global Procurement at Coherent, Penang

We are currently looking for a highly skilled Senior Buyer to join our dynamic Supply Chain team at our state-of-the-art Penang facility.

This is a high-impact role where you will manage strategic sourcing and procurement for a diverse portfolio of direct and indirect materials. You will be responsible for developing and executing global sourcing strategies that optimize cost, quality, and delivery for our complex manufacturing operations. Reporting directly to the Procurement Manager, you will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders in Engineering, Quality, and Operations to ensure alignment and seamless supply chain continuity.

Your primary mission will be to secure materials and services at the best total cost of ownership while managing supplier relationships and mitigating risks. You will lead contract negotiations, monitor market trends and commodity pricing, and drive initiatives that contribute directly to the company's bottom line. This role offers excellent visibility and the chance to influence key business decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement strategic sourcing plans to support manufacturing and engineering requirements.
• Negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions with suppliers to achieve cost, quality, and delivery targets.
• Evaluate and select suppliers based on capability, capacity, and cost competitiveness.
• Manage the RFQ/RFP process, analyze proposals, and make data-driven sourcing recommendations.
• Monitor market trends, commodity prices, and geopolitical factors to mitigate supply chain risks.
• Collaborate with internal teams to forecast demand, resolve quality issues, and optimize inventory.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, ethical sourcing standards, and trade regulations.
• Drive continuous improvement in procurement processes, cycle times, and cost reduction.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a strategic buying or procurement role, preferably within electronics, semiconductor, or advanced manufacturing.
• Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a track record of achieving measurable cost savings.
• Proven experience managing supplier contracts and conducting business reviews.
• Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Knowledge of international logistics, Incoterms, and import/export regulations is highly desirable.
• Professional certifications (CSCP, CPSM, CPM) are a plus.
