At the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech) is seeking a highly motivated (Senior) Research Engineer to join our team at the forefront of adaptive robotics and mechatronics. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of embodied AI systems that will redefine robotic perception, reasoning, and control.
As a key member of our research team, you will design and implement cutting-edge algorithms for adaptive robotic systems, including perception, planning, and control. You will work with state-of-the-art hardware platforms, integrating sensors, actuators, and AI models to enable robots to operate in dynamic, unstructured environments. Your work will directly impact the future of manufacturing, logistics, and service robotics.
Key responsibilities include developing and testing novel embodied AI approaches, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists, and publishing research findings in top-tier conferences and journals. You will also contribute to project proposals and technology transfer to industry partners.

Tanggung Jawab
- Design and develop advanced algorithms for adaptive robotic perception, localization, and control.
- Implement embodied AI solutions integrating robotic hardware with real-time sensing and decision-making.
- Conduct experiments and validation on robotic platforms to demonstrate robustness in unstructured environments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate mechatronic systems and optimize performance.
- Contribute to research publications and presentations at international conferences.
- Support the development of patentable innovations and intellectual property.
- Mentor junior engineers and intern students on robotics projects.
- Participate in grant writing and project management activities.
Kualifikasi
- PhD (or Masters with significant experience) in Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.
- Strong expertise in robotic perception (e.g., computer vision, LiDAR processing, sensor fusion) and control systems.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, and experience with ROS (Robot Operating System).
- Hands-on experience with robotic hardware platforms (e.g., manipulators, mobile robots, sensors).
- Solid understanding of machine learning, deep learning, and reinforcement learning as applied to robotics.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and in a team.
- Track record of research publications in reputable journals/conferences.
- Strong communication skills and fluency in English.
