SMD Semiconductor Sdn Bhd is seeking a visionary Senior Staff Engineer to play a pivotal role in the establishment of the Sarawak Silicon Longhouse and the development of our new state-of-the-art Kuching technology facilities. This is a ground-floor opportunity to architect the semiconductor future of Borneo, directly contributing to the ambitious Sarawak Semiconductor Roadmap 2030.
As a key technical leader, you will drive initiatives that bridge IC design innovation with robust manufacturing capabilities. Working closely with global partners, government agencies, and a dedicated local team, you will establish SMD Semiconductor as a powerhouse of IC innovation in the region.
The Sarawak Semiconductor Roadmap 2030 aims to position Sarawak as a premier destination for semiconductor design, test, and assembly. As the Senior Staff Engineer for Industry Development, you will translate this bold vision into technical reality. Your expertise will be crucial in scoping project requirements from the ground up, including procuring advanced equipment, defining cleanroom specifications, and building the initial high-caliber engineering team. You will own the technical strategy for the Kuching facility, ensuring it is globally competitive, operationally efficient, and strategically aligned with future market demands for AI, automotive, and high-performance computing chips.

Tanggung Jawab
- Lead the technical development and scaling of semiconductor process technologies for the Sarawak Silicon Longhouse initiative and the new Kuching mega-facility.
- Define and execute the technology roadmap for IC design, simulation, and prototyping, ensuring alignment with global market trends and the Sarawak Semiconductor Roadmap 2030.
- Oversee the commissioning, qualification, and ramp-up of advanced fabrication, assembly, and testing equipment.
- Establish robust process integration flows, design rules, and test methodologies to achieve world-class yield and reliability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across R&D, Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain to drive seamless technology transfer from concept to high-volume manufacturing.
- Mentor and develop a local team of engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of innovation, technical rigor, and continuous improvement.
- Act as the senior technical interface with strategic partners, equipment vendors, and research institutions to foster innovation.
- Ensure full compliance with EHS standards, cleanroom protocols, and international semiconductor industry certifications.
Kualifikasi
- Education: Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics, Materials Science, Physics, or a closely related field. A Bachelor's degree with exceptional experience will be considered.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 to 12 years in the semiconductor industry, with a proven track record in process integration, device physics, or IC design.
- Deep expertise in one or more of the following: CMOS, MEMS, GaN/SiC power devices, or advanced packaging technologies.
- Strong experience in technology development and ramp-up (NPI to HVM) within a leading foundry or IDM environment.
- Prior experience setting up or expanding semiconductor facilities (cleanrooms, FABs, or labs) is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional teams and project management, with experience in budgeting and vendor negotiation.
- Excellent command of English (written and spoken). Proficiency in Mandarin or Bahasa Malaysia is an added advantage.
- A strong passion for developing the semiconductor ecosystem in Sarawak and a willingness to relocate to Kuching.
